FAQ

Fees

Kate Carlin: $240 (50 min session), $430 (90 min partners/family)

Associate Clinicians: $175 (50 min), $315 (90 min)

Sessions are typically conducted on a weekly basis.

We always reserve 25% of our practice for sliding scale fees. Priority is given to folks in the BIPOC & LGBTQ+ communities. Please let us know if a fee reduction would allow you to begin & sustain your treatment process.

We acknowledge that our sliding scale range may still be out of budget for many folks. We have also compiled a list of community clinics that offer low-fee or pro-bono therapy, found on our resource page.

Insurance

This practice does not take insurance.

However many insurance carriers/PPO plans will reimburse out-of-network therapy costs. If your policy does reimburse, we will provide you with the paperwork (‘superbill’) needed to file a claim to be reimbursed. Please be aware that most insurance companies require a diagnosis code to be included on your superbill. Please call your insurance carrier to confirm the specifics of your plan for reimbursement.

This site can also help you find out what your plan covers: https://app.thesuperbill.com/sign-up

Ask these questions when speaking to your insurance company about benefits:

  • Does my insurance plan reimburse for out-of-network, outpatient mental health services?

  • Does it only cover individual sessions? Couples work? Telehealth/video/phone sessions?

  • Does it only cover sessions from a Licensed therapist or will it also cover sessions with an Associate therapist?

  • Do I have a deductible? Has it been met?

  • What amount or percentage will be reimbursed per session?

  • Is there a cap on how much can be reimbursed?

  • How do I submit claim forms for reimbursement?

Cancellations

Session cancellations must be received, via phone or email, at least 24-hours in advance of your appointment time. If you cancel within the 24-hour period you will owe the full fee of the missed session.

Telehealth

In addition to meeting in person, our clinicians offer online video sessions via HIPAA compliant Zoom, for California residents.

Telehealth fees are the same as listed above.

Good Faith Estimate

Under the law, health care providers need to give patients who don’t have insurance or who are not using insurance an estimate of the expected charges for medical services, including psychotherapy services.

You have the right to receive a Good Faith Estimate for the total expected cost of any non-emergency healthcare services, including psychotherapy services.

Before you schedule a service, you can ask your healthcare provider, and any other provider you choose, for a “Good Faith Estimate” explaining how much your medical and mental health care will cost.

If you receive a bill that is at least $400 more than your Good Faith Estimate, you can dispute the bill. Make sure to save a copy or picture of your Good Faith Estimate.

For questions or more information about your right to a Good Faith Estimate, visit www.cms.gov/nosurprises.
